Best Way From Mumbai Airport to City Center

Mumbai, the bustling metropolis known for its vibrant culture, rich history, and thriving business landscape, welcomes travelers from around the globe through its primary gateway – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

But getting from the airport to the city center, where famous sites like the Gateway of India and Colaba are waiting to be seen, can be a bit intimidating for many tourists.

Don’t worry! We’ve curated a comprehensive guide to help you navigate seamlessly from Mumbai airport to the heart of the city.

How to get from Mumbai Airport to the city center

The Mumbai airport is about 30 kilometers from the city center, and depending on traffic, it can take 40 – 60 minutes to get there.

So, let’s explore the most convenient and cost-effective ways!

1. Uber

The best way to get to the city center is by taking Uber.

The price is about INR 600 to 800 (USD 7 to 9),depending on the time and demand.

It’s very convenient, especially if you’re already familiar with the app and have your credit card linked for payment.

The pick-up point is one level below the arrival hall. You’ll need to confirm the PIN number with the driver.

Another option to consider is pre-booking your private pick-up through apps like Booking.com.

2. Pre-paid Taxi

Once you’re in the arrival hall, there’s a designated counter to book pre-paid taxi service.

I’d say the price is very reasonable considering the distance, and more importantly, it’s hassle-free.

You don’t have to worry about being scammed by the taxi driver! Although they may ask you for tips.

If you go to the counter one level below, there’s also another counter for pre-paid taxi where they can offer you a taxi without air conditioning (which might be cheaper, but not a good idea especially during the daytime).

The price for the air-conditioned taxi in any counter should be the same.

Taking a pre-paid taxi would cost you about INR 1,000 (USD 12).

3. Bus – Airport Express

If you’re traveling solo and prefer to take public transport, there’s a bus service called Airport Express that can take you to the Colaba area.

You can book it online; however, you’ll need a local SIM card number.

Otherwise, just go to the counter and buy the ticket on the spot. You’ll see the sign where to get it.

The bus operates from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. and it’ll cost you less than INR 200 / USD 2,4.
